  17. <p>     Before they slip into tabloid history, take a parting glance
  18. at Illinois' David and Sharon Schoo. Last year they were the
  19. World's Worst Parents, deserting their daughters for a Mexican
  20. vacation. On Monday the Schoos were sentenced to community
  21. service and 30 days of virtual house arrest, leaving the couple
  22. themselves "home alone."
  23. </p>
  24. <p>     Kane County courthouse phone lines blazed with anger at
  25. the mild judicial spanking. "No one wants to see the kids back
  26. with their parents," says an official. A decision on permanent
  27. custody for the girls, now in foster care, could take a year.
